Background

Athena Global Alliance is a decade old, niche consulting firm in impact investing, with a current focus in emerging market financial services. Athena administers a program in Indonesia to support lending to small and growing businesses, with a focus on women-owned/women-led businesses, called BIDUK (Berinvestasti Dalam Usaha untuk Kemajuan, “Investing in Business for Progress”). The Program Officer is expected to collaboratively support a small, but growing, global team for the BIDUK project in Indonesia.

This role is full-time, and best suited for an individual with some previous experience in development programs and/or financial sector. The position requires local, Jakarta-based, support, fluent in both Bahasa Indonesian and English. The chosen candidate will be able to work independently and effectively collaborate with international remote teams. Under COVID restrictions, this will be a remote position. Safety protocols permitting, this will be based out of our central Jakarta office.

Key Aspects of the Role

 The Program Officer will be supporting the team across multiple areas of BIDUK’s operations, including:

Program Portfolio

Supporting the Business Analyst and Business Development Manager with:

  • Coordinating schedules and deliverables between clients and BIDUK team
  • Performing site visit and meeting with clients;
  • Attending and participating in industry events on-line and in-person (Jakarta only)
  • Staying up with trends and researching the current market for SME financing, FinTech, impact investing and other related themes;
  • Other tasks related to client relationships and due diligence process.

 Communications

Working closely with the Communications and Learning Specialist to:

  • Develop subtitles for our video series in Bahasa and liaise with BIDUK’s video editor during video production for uploading and review of the subtitles.
  • Develop short captions in Bahasa for our communications products, including tweets and LinkedIn posts;
  • Translate from English to Bahasa our blogposts and content material for the BIDUK website.
  • Track and tabulate metrics on social performance indicators
  • Contribute to quarterly reports for funders

 Administration

Supporting the Finance & Operations Manager with:

  • Negotiating and managing logistics for local travel and accommodation;
  • Maintaining an electronic filing system, including appropriate file back up on Athena’s secure system;
  • Updating internal Policy documents based on internal discussions;
  • Setting up bi-weekly team calls and circulating the agenda;
  • Managing Petty Cash in compliance with Indonesian Law and BIDUK policies;
  • Any other support tasks that may arise during the assignment.

 The Successful Applicant

General Requirements

To be successful, you should be/have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, International Relations, Business Administration, Finance or related fields is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 1-year experience working in a development program or in banking and financial institutions is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in a start-up, or with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to occasionally work outside standard office hours for calls to accommodate global time zones
  • Good written and verbal communications skills in English required; excellent written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Indonesian required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Zoom, and Miro
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with colleagues remotely using Zoom and Whatsapp platforms.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Proactive, with a strong attitude toward compliance.
  • Authorized to work in Indonesia.

 Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of financial software like Quick Books, in addition to proficiency in Excel.
  • Previous experience in communications, drafting social media content on various channels including Slack, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and others
  • Previous experience in accounting or finance departments.
  • Contextual knowledge of small medium enterprises and lending in Indonesia.
  • Experience working with public donors (e.g. DFAT, USAID, EU etc.)
