Project Overview

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes, often working under difficult conditions. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis. GIZ International Services (InS) is the company’s business department offering services to international clients such as the European Commission.

The SUPA (Sustainable Use of Peatland and Haze Mitigation in ASEAN) Component 1 is a regional programme implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with the objective to strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and ASEAN Member States to implement the APMS and National Action Plan on Peatlands (NAPPs). SUPA Component 1 is co-financed by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and European Union (EU).

Responsibilities

The intern shall support the preparation and implementation of the SUPA Component 1 pilot sites in coordination with SUPA Advisors:

  • Assist in compiling and consolidate current methods for sustainable peat management to develop a manual/field guide for implementation at pilot sites in Indonesia and Malaysia.
  • Support in preparation of workshops and events at the pilot site.

Tasks

The following tasks provide a framework and can be adjusted during the internship:

  • Assist in collecting data and information through literature review (English and Indonesian literature) to gather information on methods for sustainable peatland management.
  • Assist SUPA advisors intensively to develop a manual/field guide on methods for sustainable peatland management.
  • Assist the team in preparing events (e.g. trainings, workshops, meetings, study tours) and participate in the planning and organizing process of the events.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Student in a master’s degree program in forestry, environment, or other relevant field; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply

Skill and knowledge

  • Interest and sufficient knowledge in forestry and environment issues
  • Excellent command in both spoken and written English
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Excellent command of MS – Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Experience in literature research and expert interviews
  • Work experience related on peatland or forestry will be advantage

Please note that you can only apply for this internship if you are currently enrolled as a student or your graduation was no longer than one year ago.

Duty Station: Jakarta

Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day

Expected Joining Date: 1 March 2021 – 30 August 2021

Direct Supervisor: Advisor of SUPA programme
